More than attire – it’s an identity drawn in wax and color, preserving the soul of a timeless tradition
Preserving Heritage Through Timeless Batik
Batik celebrates one of the most essential parts of Indonesian cultural identity and heritage. Often handed down within families for generations, the craft of batik involves cotton and silk garments which are hand-dyed by proud Indonesian craftspeople who draw designs on fabric using hot wax, which resists vegetable and other dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water and repeating if multiple colours are desired. The wide diversity of patterns reflects a variety of influences, ranging from Arabic calligraphy, European bouquets and Chinese phoenixes to Japanese cherry blossoms and Indian or Persian peacocks. A batik piece from Hariom’s Tailor is, therefore, more than just a beautiful object to be worn with pride; it is a statement and a promise to respect an ancient art form and uplift the communities that preserve them.
Our Process
At Hariom’s Tailor, we take several steps to ensure our clients have the most professional tailoring experience in Jakarta.
Your tailoring journey begins with a private consultation-whether a 30-minute introduction or a one-hour fitting. During this time, we take the opportunity to understand your personality, style, and vision. Together, we’ll shape the foundation of your next garment or even a complete wardrobe. Guided by our team’s expertise, you’ll be seamlessly led through fabric selection, design choices, and styling details to ensure every piece truly reflects your individuality.
Once you have selected your design and fabric, we begin the measurement process. We take upwards of 50 measurements, examining the nuances of your posture and shoulder balance and noting proportions to create your unique pattern, which is in essence, a template of your body.
We send your body pattern and design preferences to our tailors, who cut your selected fabrics to construct your garment and bring your masterpiece to life. Once the preliminary garment has been pinned and chalked, you will be notified to schedule a date/time for your final fitting.
At your final fitting, we carefully assess the fit of your garment and mark any necessary refinements. Each adjustment ensures the perfect balance of elegance and comfort, creating a suit that feels as exceptional as it looks. If no alterations are required, your bespoke attire will be ready for you to take home immediately. All details are securely recorded in our system, making future reorders effortless-simply choose a new fabric, and your precise fit is already waiting for you.
